Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps of the newest member of its GT family. Sitting snugly in between the GT S and the monster-of-green-hell GT R is – GT C Coupe. Do not mistake it with the GT C that we wrote about earlier because it was the GTC Roadster and this one is a coupe.
The GT C Coupe will initially be available exclusively as a special ‘Edition 50’ model as Mercedes-AMG is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Only 50 coupes and 50 convertibles will be built in the Edition 50 moniker. Special to the Edition 50 is matte finish called Graphite Grey Magno, a dash of black chrome exterior highlights, trim strips in the side grilles air inlets, and mouldings on the rear diffuser and exhaust pipes. The cross-spoke AMG-spec alloy wheels complete the Edition 50, badge of which is adorned at the rear.
Similar to the GT C Roadster, the GT C-Coupe has the distinctive AMG Panamericana grille. It has a 57mm wider rear track over the standard car which is boosted by flared wheel arches. The Coupe is 35kg lighter than the Roadster. As predicted, it comes with borrowed techs from the GT R, which includes – ‘Airpanel’ active air management system, AMG Ride Control sports suspension and active rear-axle steering.
Step inside and the AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in grey Dinamica micro-fibre is a welcoming sight. The cabin is done in a contrasting black and silver Nappa leather with black chrome highlights all around. There is an ‘AMG Edition’ lettering on the steering wheel bezel,
Powering the GT C Coupe is the same 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine as the Roadster, which pumps out a whopping 450bhp and 690Nm of torque. The 0-100kmph sprint takes just 3.7seconds and the car will go all the way to 317kmph.
As for the updates on the standard variant, Mercedes-AMG has tweaked the entire range with a slight hike in power outputs. All the AMG GTs now sports the Panamericana grille, an advanced aerodynamic system from GT R and some visual upgrades. The GT gets a power bump of 13bhp and 30Nm, thus now makes 469bhp and 630Nm. The GT S, on the other hand, gets a power surge from 503bhp to 515bhp, with peak torque rising by 20Nm to 670Nm. Performance figures, however, remains unchanged. The range gets new options and packages as well such as Interior Night package, AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package, and the interesting AMG Track Pack.
