Moisturising colour: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Liquid Lipstick, £18 in 8 shades
“This clicky-up pen is so easy to apply, and I love the creamy, glossy, moisturising texture. No fear of prune pout here. And while there’s plenty of colour, it’s not so opaque you need liner. Passionate Peach is my current swipe ’n’ go daytime lip.”
Airbrushed effect: Miss Sporty Wonder Smooth, £2.59
“This is an incredible lipstick full stop, let alone for this price. It has a lovely, glossy, silicone-y texture, so it glides on flawlessly and makes lips look smooth and plumped. It has such a flattering anti-ageing effect on lips it makes it easy to wear a bolder colour than you’d normally go for – my fave is Cherry Cape.”
A weightless matte: Armani Lip Magnet, £27 in 18 shades
“Oh clever! Armani has created a liquid matte lipstick that’s four-times thinner than regular versions. Skinny fluid but full-on pigments – ideal if you don’t like a heavier feel. It’s weightless, but magically airbrushes colour onto lips. I love this vampy 602 shade for a night out.”

A softer take on matte lipstick: Diego Dalla Palma Geisha Matt Liquid Lipstick, £15.50 in 6 shades
“Fantastic, long-lasting colour from this smooth, chic lip cream in shade 06. Lovely to apply and feels luxe on my lips. Totally matt, so it took more confidence to pull off than a satin finish, but it doesn’t bleed AT ALL and stays mostly in place all day.”
Smudge-proof colour: MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer, £3 in 20 shades
“Bold, bold colours (I love this vampy Firecracker) that go on then stay put – not a hint of a lipstick mark on cups. The downside is it’s quite a drying formula, so it exaggerates any chapped, uneven or lined lips – so maybe better suited to youngsters – and it feels a bit claggy even when dry. And don’t make any mistakes as you apply – it does set quickly.”
Extreme deep colour: MAC Liptensity, £17.50 in 24 shades
“Amazing full pigment in a huge range of shades with a lush, flattering, satin finish. The best thing about this lippy was that whenever I wore it, at least one person would say, “Wow, nice lippy!” It’s like the colour is so deep it makes lips look smoother, more even and full, especially in my favourite shade, Mulling Spices.”

A personalised shade: Winky Lux Flower PH Balm Lipsticks, £20 for a set of three
“I was sold before I even put these on. They have little flowers suspended in the clear lipstick! Don’t think this is just a balm – when you apply it, the formula reacts to the pH of your lips and morphs into your ideal, unique shade of pink. The three in the set do the same thing, but the flowers are different colours.”
Long-lasting lipstick: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, £16 in 26 shades
“This was perfect in every way. The point is it lasts 24 hours, and I swear, it doesn’t budge until you give it a good scrub with a cleanser. It dries matte, but it didn’t highlight any cracks in my lips. The shade Lolita II is a gorgeous deep rose, but most of the shades are very wearable (minus the black, which is aptly named Witches).”
A bargain duo: Essence 2-in-1 Lipstick & Liner, £2.50 in 5 shades
“An absolute steal! It goes to show you don’t always have to spend a fortune for a good, matte lipstick. This has a long, pointy tip for lining and filling in, which means it gave my lips a very defined finish. The colour doesn’t stay on ages, but it’s easy enough to retouch. The shade Make Some Noise is a dark rose, and is my perfect autumn pick.”
